Highly-Effective Chiropractic Techniques

We use a number of highly-effective adjusting approaches to help improve spinal biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference. The approach we use is based on our clinical judgment and years of experience.

The primary adjusting techniques we use include:

Activator Methods®

This is a system of spinal evaluation combined with a handheld adjusting instrument that delivers a consistent, low-force thrust.

  • Learn More

We’re proud to use one of the most popular “low force” chiropractic techniques in the world. With the Activator® handheld instrument, we can provide precise, gentle adjustments where and when you need it most.

This technique is often ideal for patients of all ages and walks of life. Children love our “clicker instrument”, and seniors can comfortably be adjusted more accurately using less energy.

We know you’ll love it as much as we do!

    What to Expect

The Activator Adjusting Instrument is a handheld spring-loaded tool that delivers a consistent low-force, high-speed thrust. It also makes the directed energy more precise, given at the exact angle necessary to best add motion to a joint.

Because it’s many times faster than adjustments delivered by hand, the body rarely tightens to resist, making adjustments comfortable and effective. It’s also helpful for adjusting elbows, wrists, knees and other joints of the body.

The best part? If you’re nervous about ‘cracking’, don’t be–there’s no popping sounds to be heard in this type of adjustment.

    The Follow Up

After your adjustment, we retest to make sure the desired changes have been produced. Testing afterward helps us deliver high-quality care and high levels of patient satisfaction.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How long until I’m feeling better?

Some patients find relief immediately after a single visit. Others with chronic issues feel better after continuous care for weeks or even months. We’ll always be evaluating your progress, and recommending visit frequency or making changes to your care plan as needed so that you experience the best results possible.

Can this be used in addition to other modalities?

Absolutely. We believe in making care custom for each patient. If we believe the Activator in addition to another method will be most beneficial for you, we’ll let you know.

Diversified Technique

After identifying which vertebrae have lost their normal motion or position, a specific manual thrust is applied to free up “stuck” spinal joints.

  • Learn More

At Falls Chiropractic Group, one of the many adjustment styles we use is referred to as Diversified. Among the most popular chiropractic techniques, this hands-on approach allows us to manually adjust your spinal bones into the proper position.

Diversified can be successful in helping patients of all ages and stages get back to living the life they love, naturally.

    What to Expect

First, an analysis of your spine is performed. This can initially involve a case history and X-ray pictures of your spine.

Subsequent visits may include motion palpation, with the chiropractor feeling the spinal joints move as you turn and bend. Or, a leg check may be performed, to uncover an imbalance in the neck or lower spine.

When misaligned spinal bones are identified, a specific manual thrust is administered. The direction, speed, depth and angle that are used is the result of years of experience, practice and a thorough understanding of spinal mechanics.

The energy delivered during the thrust may produce a slight “popping” sound from the shifting of gas and fluids in the joint. There’s no need to worry or be frightened about this–in fact, most patients find adjustments relaxing and relieving!

    What are the Benefits?

While improving spinal biomechanics can reduce nervous system interferences, virtually all joints of the body can be adjusted to help restore proper range of motion. Simply put, many patients find that it’s easier to carry out tasks in their daily life without noticing pain, aches or other problems.

Cox Flexion-Distraction

We use a special table so we can traction your spine, opening up the spacing between spinal vertebrae and relieving pressure to spinal.

  • Learn More

Named after its developer, Dr. James Cox, this highly-effective technique combines osteopathic principles with the specific, highly-directed approach used in chiropractic. The combination offers a conservative resolution of low back and leg pain that often averts the need for surgery.

    What to Expect

This is a gentle, non-force adjusting approach. The thing that most patients notice first is our special table. The movements of this table help traction the spine, opening up compressed spinal discs and reducing pressure on facet joints of the spine.

The Cox Flexion-Distraction technique we use gives us the ability to place spinal joints in a more normal motion and position without pain or aggravating your condition.

By lying on the table, neutralizing the effects of gravity, we’re able to gently separate spinal joints and move them through a more normal range of motion. Patients find this surprisingly pleasant. We find it powerfully effective.

Gonstead

This full spine approach relies on X-rays and a heat-sensing instrument for a thorough evaluation and documented results.

  • Learn More

At Falls Chiropractic Group, we understand that not every person is the same, and because of that, we’re proud to offer a number of specific adjustments to meet your needs. With the Gonstead technique, often hailed as the “gold standard” in chiropractic, we can address your concerns through evidence-based practices.

    What is the Gonstead Technique?

Named after its developer, Dr. Clarence Gonstead, this approach came from his engineering background. His “foundation principle” explains how a subluxation pattern in one area of the spine can produce compensatory changes in another.

For that reason, we look at you as a whole person–not just your spine–to determine where the adjustment would be most beneficial to bring results.

    What to Expect

After studying your health history, we conduct a complete examination. This generally includes full spine X-rays and precise analysis. Using a small heat-sensing instrument, subluxation patterns are revealed by slight differences in temperature. Finally, we use our fingertips to “palpate” or feel the location of individual bones and how they may differ from their normal position.

To adjust your lower spine and pelvis, we’ll have you lie on your side. Subluxations in the middle back are corrected as you assume a comfortable kneeling position. When you are seated, we can restore the integrity of your spine without twisting or rotating your neck.

Sometimes you’ll hear a slight “popping” sound that we call cavitation. Sometimes you won’t. Either way, better health is on the way!

Myofascial Release

We’ll find tender areas where muscles and connective tissue are producing pain and restricted movement and gently release it.

  • Learn More

Myofascial release is a form of physical therapy that’s often used to address myofascial pain syndrome. This chronic pain disorder is caused by sensitivity and tightness in the myofascial tissues. These tissues surround and provide support to the muscles throughout your body.

The pain usually starts from particular points within your myofascial tissues—called “trigger points.” The primary goal of myofascial release is reducing pain by easing the tension and tightness in the trigger points.

    How Does Myofascial Release Work?

The majority of myofascial release sessions take place during a massage therapy visit. Some chiropractors and traditional medical practitioners may also provide it.

Your chiropractor or therapist will gently massage the myofascia and check to see if it’s stiff or tight. Normal myofascia should be elastic or pliable. The practitioner then will begin massaging and stretching the areas that feel rigid using low-force manual pressure.

The process is repeated several times on the same trigger point and on the other trigger points until the doctor or therapist feels the tension has been completely released.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Who can benefit most from this therapy?

Those with myofascial pain and headaches often get favorable results with this type of physical therapy.

Is there anything I should do after my session?

Yes, drink more water. By drinking more than your usual water intake, you’ll help flush out toxins that have built up and reduce soreness.

Is there anyone who shouldn’t have myofascial release?

Yes, if you have fragile or weak bones, have deep vein issues or are taking blood-thinning medication you should have the therapy.

The Thompson Technique

Thompson Terminal Point technique is a system of analysis and a special table that reduces the amount of energy needed to adjust your spine.

  • Learn More

Developed by Dr. J. Clay Thompson, the Thompson Technique, is a system of analysis and a method of adjusting the entire spine. The combination yields precise adjustments and a high level of patient comfort.

    A System of Analysis

Early chiropractors noticed that subluxations would result in the appearance of a shortened or contracted leg. Employing a protocol of comparing leg lengths while the patient turned their head, helped establish whether the subluxation was located in the upper, middle or lower back.

    Terminal Point Table

When patients first come in to receive adjustments using the Thompson Technique, they often notice our segmental “drop” table. After stepping onto the platform, the table gently lowers you into a horizontal position, which helps preserve any leg length inequality.

Individual cushions or “drop pieces” that are found along the table surface support each segment of your spine until the thrust is administered. Next, each drop piece gently gives way, decreasing the amount of energy required to move a particular spinal segment.

    A Precise Approach

As this method is highly unique, Dr. Thompson was granted a patent in 1955. Since then, thanks to its precision and excellent patient results, the technique is used around the globe.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Thompson Technique different from other chiropractic methods?

This technique includes a leg check analysis as well as adjusting procedures.

Is this method appropriate for children and seniors?

Yes, because the table has a “weighing” system where the drop pieces are set slightly heavier than the patient’s body weight, a gentle, yet effective adjustment for patients of all ages can be given.

Do you combine Thompson Drop Table adjustments with other chiropractic techniques?

As is the case with other chiropractic methods, the Thompson Technique can be used with other natural healing modalities.

Torque Release Technique

With a gentle touch and a light thrusting by hand or an instrument called an Integrator, the brain/body connection is enhanced.

  • Learn More

Torque Release Technique (TRT) is considered to be the most scientific chiropractic technique in the world. The method uses a very gentle touch and low-force thrusting by hand or a small, handheld instrument called the Integrator™. This adjusting method allows the nervous system to effectively integrate and better understand the new corrective information and to process it throughout the spinal cord and brain.

Imagine that your nervous system features volume control. If the volume is too loud distortion results, and you may experience internal organ complaints, musculoskeletal stresses and a weakened immune response.

If that response is too weak, and your body doesn’t receive critical messages, you’ll likely feel sluggish and experience reduced performance and inadequate muscle support. TRT seeks to correct these problems by normalizing how the nerves, spinal cord and brain function.

Following each adjustment, the body is given time to process the change. Correction continues with your body’s movements and breathing. This process instructs and empowers your body to make more corrections. With subsequent visits, your healing will progress.

    Conditions TRT Can Address

Patients who experience the following often get great results from TRT:

    • Anxiety
    • Back pain
    • Balance problems
    • Depression
    • Digestive issues
    • Dizziness
    • Headaches
    • Low energy
    • Neck pain
    • Sleep issues

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Does this technique hurt?

No, TRT is very gentle and painless. There’s no twisting or popping involved.

What are the primary benefits of TRT over other methods?

TRT is precise, gentle, fast, efficient and reproducible.

Can children get adjusted with TRT?

Yes, again, because the adjustment is highly gentle it’s safe for children of all ages, from babies to teens.
